Infertility and Problems Getting Pregnant

Having Problems Getting Pregnant

While some couples are immediately blessed with children, not all are that fortunate. Some couples may have to wait for years and go through all kinds of tests just to conceive. Infertility and problems getting pregnant can be a very trying situation for any couple. This is a difficult time for you and your partner but there is still hope for you. Modern day medical procedures can be resorted to help struggling couples with their infertility problems.

Infertility is a medical problem that is the inability to conceive a child or even carry a pregnancy to full term. A couple can be categorized as infertile after a period of one year of frequent, unprotected sexual intercourse. Statistics show that an estimated 10-15 percent of couples are infertile. Records also show that of the fertility cases, 35 percent can be attributed to physical problems in a woman and 35 percent can be attributed to problems in the man. The remaining percentage could either be attributed to problems in both partners or could not be explained.

Infertility Can Be Devastating

Couples marry for procreation and conceiving children fulfills this goal. Children makes a family complete and strengthens the bond between the couple. Infertility or problems in getting pregnant could be one of the greatest challenges a couple may go through. Chances are the infertile partner would feel emotionally, physically and psychologically affected. He/she may feel a big failure and may start to feel guilty. He/she may even offer divorce as a means of ending his/her guilty feelings.

This feeling may intensify especially when somebody else announces a pregnancy among family members or peers. The feeling of depression and anxiety will deepen. Infertility or having problems getting pregnant could also lower the self esteem of one or both partners. As other couples proudly share the joys of pregnancy and the coming birth of a baby, infertile couples often feel lonely, sad, and even angry.

When you go through expensive medical procedures or a series of treatments and no pregnancy results, the disappointment may turn to devastation. The situation may also put a stress on the relationship of the couple and if worst comes to worst, it may even cause a break-up or separation between two people who pledged to love each other for better or for worse.

The prospect of going through regular tests and examinations on the physical level is not pleasant when you are suffering from infertility and problems getting pregnant. The tests, which could be conducted weekly, monthly, or on a regular basis could not only be exhausting and embarrassing but costly, too. You may have to take medications or daily injections and there is always the possibility of suffering side effects from the medications. In some cases, surgery and other procedures may be needed. This is invasion of your privacy as a couple and when done frequently, can be physically and emotionally draining on your relationship.

The prospect of lying on an examining table as doctors probe and take fluids from your body as sample for tests when done for so many times could prove taxing for anybody.

The constant expectations of friends and family that you will get pregnant soon add to the pressure you and your partner are feeling. Suggestions and recommendations for you to take time off and make the business of having a baby serious mission get on your nerves later on. This will add to the strain you are feeling. To aggravate the situation, it would seem a joke to know that every other couple is getting pregnant while you have gone to the ends of the world trying.
