Early Signs And Symptoms Of Pregnancy

Early symptoms of pregnancy

TO become a mother is the essence of being a woman, and the experience of getting pregnant especially for the first time can be a very exciting yet overwhelming prospect. A woman will experience several physical and emotional changes and some women immediately feel the signs and symptoms of pregnancy early on, but others do not get a clue until after several weeks when the body changes are so obvious. For this, you need to be prepared to understand all these changes.

Here are the most common early signs and symptoms of pregnancy:

· Missed period

A missed period is one of the most common early signs of pregnancy. Unless you menstruate on a regular cycle, a missed period would mean you’re pregnant but for women whose cycle is irregular, this is difficult to determine. Some women miss their monthly period due to several factors like poor diet, high levels of stress and other factors. Some women too bleed slightly during implantation which you may mistake for menstruation.

· Tender breasts

From one to two weeks after conception, your breasts will start to feel tender, swollen and painful. The areola or skin surrounding the nipples will swell, darken, and continue throughout your pregnancy.

· Morning sickness

This usually attacks during the first trimester of your pregnancy, where you will start to feel nausea and/or vomiting. This is one of the most common yet dreaded among the early signs of pregnancy, and funny but it does not live up to its name. It can strike in the morning, noon, night or anytime.

· Extreme fatigue

You are always feeling tired and sleepy. This one of the early signs and symptoms of pregnancy caused by the changes in your hormone levels.

· Frequent Urination

You may experience the need to visit the bathroom often. You may even leak a small amount of urine when you laugh, cough or even sneeze. This could be attributed to the fact that your uterus is expanding that it presses your bladder. Generally, this happens when you are already in your third trimester but there are instances when women who are in their first trimester experience this.

· Mood swings

One moment you could be very happy and the next minute, you are already crying. This will confuse your partner and other members of your family but don’t be afraid. You are not going mad but this is again another sign of pregnancy. This is just temporary and will eventually be gone.

· Aches and Pains

Backache and headache are two of the top raters in the list of aches and pains felt by pregnant women. This is due to the hormone surge that occurs right after conception and may go on throughout the duration of your pregnancy.

Women differ from each other. You may or may not experience any or all of the above early signs and symptoms of pregnancy, that all depends upon how your body adjusts to the hormonal changes. Your consolation is that these are just temporary and no matter how unpleasant, these will go away. You won’t be pregnant everyday of your whole life and these difficulties will be rewarded when your baby fights its way out of your womb and you lay eyes on him/her for the first time.
